Adoption creates profound loss and separation that impacts relational attachments over a lifetime. The trauma of broken bonds in adoption affects children and their families neurologically, psychologically and spiritually. This workshop provides developmental models for compassionate adoptive parenting based on neuroscience research into the extraordinary relationship between trauma and human development. Parents and professionals will be able to identify the normative challenges and predictable crises in adoptive family systems, and the cognitive, emotional and spiritual challenges for traumatized children. Participants will learn more proactive and healing interventions for parenting traumatized adopted children and strengthening family relationships, especially when adoption hurts.
